When creating your poster with PowerPoint, ensure you set the page size first. Go to ‘Design’, choose ‘Page Sizes’, and input the dimensions in centimeters, not millimeters.
What is bleed?
Bleed refers to the portion where the background colour or design extends beyond the main part of a page, eliminating any visible white borders.
When preparing your document, you have two options:
- Extend the Document Dimensions:
– Add an extra 3mm to each side of the standard page size.
– For instance, while the regular A4 size is 297mm x 210mm, with the bleed addition, it would be 303mm x 216mm.
– Ensure your text or artwork is positioned at least 5mm away from the edges.
– Your document will then be printed on a larger paper size and subsequently trimmed down to the desired size.
- Maintain Standard Document Size:
– Keep your document at the regular size, but ensure that any text or designs are placed 5mm away from every edge.
– The document will be printed on a larger sheet and then cut down to achieve bleed. As a result, the final document size will be marginally reduced, e.g., for an A4 size of 297mm x 210mm, the trimmed size would be 291mm x 204mm.
For those utilizing design software, many programs offer an option to export designs with the bleed setting. Refer to your specific software’s user manual for guidance.
Kindly Note: If all your pages are designed with white borders, there’s no need to make adjustments for bleed.
